Cold day, warm arms

I’ve learned that most robots will actually turn up their internal heating element (which is normally for keeping internal components at optimal temps during cold weather) for the benefit of their feline companions. There you go! Quality companionship equals radiant heat?

Upon returning from a randomized perambulation, the robot’s path was intercepted and temporarily paralleled by a cat. After a few minutes the cat angled away down an alley, where it paused, just once, to look back and momentarily regard the robot.

The robot turned it’s attention from its drink and regarded me quietly, steadily. The last time I had been looked at that way was by a cat. Not as a threat; not prey; but as a subject worthy of some small amount of attention.

In an on-going quest to lower its duty cycle, 8er7 parked the truck in an out-of-the-way spot and descended to the ground to spend some time sampling the EMR and charging its batteries. After some time on the a cat approached. By way of introduction, 8er7 reached out an end effector to the cat, who sniffed at it tentatively, ultimately unimpressed with what the robot might have had to offer.
