The body will stay where it is, in the dark. The tunnel will keep its secret for now. More importantly, to remove the body would undo, to erase, an important part of their story. Whatever caused their demise is in the past and what we do now will not affect that.

Their journey took the robots through ever stranger landscapes. One evening, at sunset, the sky appeared to be consumed in a silent explosion. They were momentarily alarmed, however neither of them detected any rapid changes in local atmospheric conditions or an increase in EMF. Even so, there was a low-level background noise that defied analysis…

I was telling the robots about how I’ve been feeling like I was “in a slump” lately. They didn’t quite understand and tried to equate it to “voltage sag.” I drew them a picture and I could tell their neural networks were making new connections.
